Baseball’s number 1 prospect, Wander Franco, made his debut for the Tampa Bay Rays on June 22nd.
Tropicana field was packed to watch the new member of the team. Franco played third base and drew a walk during his first plate appearance, showing off his above average plate discipline skills.
He followed up with a 3-run home run to tie the game 5-5, and a double. It was quite the debut. Franco looked very comfortable at the plate, and will hopefully continue his success from Triple A at the major league level in the coming months.
If he stays in the majors, I think he will really put on a show this season. Hopefully his bat will spark some new life in the Rays, who have lost the past 7 games, causing them to fall out of first place.
In the video above, I go into his offensive and defensive skills, as well as identifying a potential area for improvement (baserunning).
How do you think Franco will do this season?
