I had the pleasure of appearing as a guest on BALLCAP Sports’ Youtube Channel and talking about the Toronto Blue Jays. We broke down some of their best players, and identified what to look out for this season.
Check out the videos below.
Vlad Guerrero Jr.
Will a Swing Change Improve his Production?
Vlad Guerrero Jr. has the power, but isn’t getting the results. Last season, he hit the ball hard 50% of the time. Unfortunately, more of his balls in play ended up as ground balls (55% Ground Ball rate). He has so much untapped potential, will a swing change help improve his SLG?
Bo Bichette and Cavan Biggio
They Have Opposite Plate Approaches, Should Either Make an Adjustment?
Bo Bichette has a very aggressive plate approach, and swings 11% more than the average hitter.
Bo Bichette | League Average | Difference | |
Chase % | 44 | 30 | +14 |
In Zone Swing % | 70 | 65 | +5 |
Swing % | 57 | 46 | +11 |
He was also bottom 4% of the league in terms of walk rate last season, at 3.9%. Should Bichette be a little more patient at the plate?
In contrast to Bichette, Cavan Biggio has a very patient plate approach. He only chases 13% of the time, and walks 16% of the time. Should he try a more aggressive approach?
