There is so much more to love about baseball than the game itself. I was really bored the other day and started going through my old twitter likes when I came across a bunch of funny baseball related tweets. Watching these videos and reading some of these exchanges made me miss baseball even more.
While understandable, a lot of players are opting out of the 2020 season. That combined with the fact the season is only 60 games and has new protocols, limited fans, etc, makes it feel like this year won’t be the same as others.
I’m hopeful that we’ll reach the July start date and get to see some baseball this year, but until then please enjoy some funny baseball interactions from the past couple of years.
1. When Finn the Bat Dog Got Hungry
Finn the Bat Dog works for the Las Vegas Aviators and is adorable. He grabs the bat and equipment after a player is finished at the plate, and even brings water to the umpires. In the clip below, he is eyeing a bite of a fan’s hot-dog. Hope he got a piece!
2. When Freddie Freeman Was Not Happy with Out Call
Freddie Freeman slid into second base and was called out. He decided it would be fun to knock the ball out of Asdrubal Cabrera’s hands. They had a little play fight before Freeman ran back to the dugout.
3. When Harper Gave Blooper a Nice Tip
Blooper ran over to Bryce Harper and tricked him into signing over $330 million. Harper thought he was signing a document that said June 19th was National Bryce Harper Day, but in reality it was a check made out to Blooper for quite a bit of money.
4. When the Cubs Played Duck, Duck, Goose in the Bullpen
Quite an intense game of duck, duck, goose, or as Cut4 called it “bear, bear, cub”. It was a celebration after Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run home run. They even got the security guard to play!
5. When this Yankee Fan Was Repulsed by a Home Run
The fan wanted absolutely nothing to do with this home run. In his defense, I think Judge was trying to jump up for the catch. Good for him for not messing with his own outfielders. And to be fair, I make the same face when my team gives up a home run!
6. When an Eagle Landed on James Paxton
Before the Twins’ home opener back in 2018, there was an Eagle released on the field. The eagle must have mistaken Paxton for either his owner or a small tree. Paxton managed to remain very calm as the eagle tried to land on his shoulder.
7. When the Astros’ Twitter Sassed a Fan
The first image is off an Astros’ fan, Lee, who replied to the Astros’ tweet about opening day with “and my wife left me, what an opening day”. Another fan, Sandrita, chimes in and tells the Astros to send Lee some free tickets. The Astros replied: “It sounds like he only needs one ticket now”. Yikes! Tough break for Lee.
8. When A-Rod Tried to Sneak a Yankees Jacket Onto David Ortiz
A-Rod snuck behind Big Papi in the studio and tried to put a Yankees jacket on him. When Ortiz realized what it was, he immediately jumped up and tried to remove it. (I don’t think many Red Sox fans would’ve been happy with him otherwise!)
9. When Orbit Had the Last Laugh Against Chris Archer
Chris Archer and Orbit went back and forth with pranks when the Rays played the Astros back in 2017. When the Rays were heading out, Orbit disguised himself and remained still like a statue. He jumped up and scared Archer, who proceeded to run away.
10. When the Tulsa Drillers Had Some Unexpected Pre-Game Entertainment
The Bark in the Park Night in Tulsa got a little out of control when a German Shepherd decided to chase after a ball in the infield. He saw the players warming up and wanted to join in on the fun! A couple of players even tossed the ball around for him. He just wanted to play.
What are some of your funny baseball memories?
